During the Final Closing of the Innovation Week; Dubai Breaks Another "Guinness World Record"27.11.2016
The crowning achievement to an already great week witnessed Dubai breaking the Guinness World Record under the guidance of The General Secretariat of the Executive Council of Dubai and The Good Move initiative, part of Dubai Plan 2021 launched earlier this year in partnership with Emirates and Meraas promoting health and fitness to all members of the community; the event was in partnership with TechnoGym and UAE Cycling Federation and for the most mechanical energy produced in one hour, generating 8.999 watts.
‘Pedal to Guinness World Record’, saw 300 participants cycling for one hour on 100 stationary bicycles while results and updates were reflected on the tallest building in the world ‘Burj Khalifa’.
This thrilling, event was open for participation to all members of the community, Saturday November 26, 2016 at The Innovation Hub in Burj Park Downtown Dubai on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard. The previous record for the most mechanical energy produced in one hour by pedaling on static bicycles is 8,369.8 watt within an hour, at Stoke Park in the United Kingdom.
The event was attended by a delegation from Guinness World Records to ensure the challenge took place through all the right conditions to break the world record. His Excellency Abdulla Al Shaibani, Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai and member of the Higher Committee for UAE Innovation Week received the certificate in the presence of supporters and participants who expressed their pride in being part of taking Dubai yet another step further in its achievements not only locally but globally.
Speaking on this occasion, His Excellency Al Shaibani said, “What makes the UAE so resilient and has allowed it to achieve such accomplishments and growth over the past decade is the commitment to strive for the best. From the tallest building in the world that shows the nation’s infrastructure capabilities, to this new record for the most mechanical energy produced in one hour, generating 8,999 watts. This event has come under the Dubai Plan 2021 portraying Dubai’s efforts in promoting health and wellness – the UAE and Dubai have set a leader for not only the region, but the world.”

A Full Week of Innovation:
The Innovation Hub, the main activity in Dubai for this year’s UAE Innovation Week, witnessed the visit of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum where he was introduced to the various innovations through the activities that make innovation part of the community’s daily life. Different government entities participated in the activities; The General Secretariat of the Executive Council of Dubai, Dubai Health Authority, The Road & Transport Authority, Dubai Municipality, Higher Colleges of Technology and The Higher Institute of Applied Technology. The Innovation Hub and during the four day event witnessed a large number of visitors from various sectors of the community and over 4000 visitors.
His Excellency Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qatami, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority, stated: "At this year’s UAE Innovation Week, our participation included various unique platforms and projects as well as different competitive initiatives to support in enhancing the wellbeing of our community in the most innovative way possible. One of the activities included ‘Your Health Today… with Innovation’, aimed at making the community more conscious of their health and wellbeing by managing it through the use of medical and social apps especially in schools and shopping centers. Our aim is to motivate members of the community to work hard towards keeping fit and healthy by engaging in fun and interactive activities.”
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) explained how: “The Innovation Hub was a great demonstration of what the authority has been doing to ensure the best quality of service for the community. Visitors can watch from the Roads and Field communications control room at The Innovation Hub as the "Falcon 360" drone roamed across the Dubai skyline and monitored traffic jams and movement of transport. Participants were able to witness how the data gets collected and transferred to location where team members can come up with real-time solutions to traffic jams.”
Hamdah Mohammed Bin Kalban, Dubai Committee Coordinator for the UAE's Innovation Week, said: “The UAE Innovation Week is an annual event where we celebrate our innovators and share the knowledge received with everyone aiming of spreading innovation among everyone in the society and this has come under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The UAE Innovation Week was a great success and it has showcased the focus of the nation for the future making innovations an essential day to day activity in our lives.”

Activities at The Innovation Hub:
Visitors to The Innovation Hub had a chance to discover the ‘Smart District’, which has developed a range of concepts for the future, starting with the design of a smart city and linking infrastructure using the "Internet of Things" technology, for the opportunity for visitors to control a city through a virtual control room that supports augmented reality technology. Activities also included Dubai Health Authority’s ‘Your Health Today… with Innovation’ as well as a fully equipped ‘Smart District’ exhibition. The Hub also witnessed activities that were fun and engaging, such as ‘Race against’, which includes the ability for participants to compete, and engage in a race against technology that can generate an opponent such as a tiger, a leopard, a robot or others! The challenge took place on an adjacent screen and along a 30 meter track. Visitors also took a seat using ‘VR Racer’ and using Virtual Reality goggles to take them to a new world full of adventures and challenges to overcome. The drone, ‘Falcon 360’ designed by the RTA roamed across the Dubai skyline and monitoredtraffic jams, the movement of transport, the extent of pollution, and other data as it is transferred to the unified control of Roads and Field communications room at the “The Innovation Hub."
