His Highness Sheikh Mohammed’s journey of serving the nation began in 1968, when he was appointed Head of Dubai Police and Public Security. His emergence as a political leader coincided with the establishment of the UAE as an independent and sovereign state on 2 December 1971, when he was appointed Minister of Defense in the UAE’s first federal government cabinet, while also assuming additional key responsibilities at both the local and international levels.
With the late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum serving as the Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum appointed Crown Prince of Dubai in January 1995, following the passing of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Dubai entered a new phase of modernity that begun to shape a bright image for the emirate. These projects served as the cornerstone for solidifying its position as a leading global destination and prominent economic epicenter in the region.
In February 2003, the establishment of The Executive Council of Dubai, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, marked a pivotal moment in Dubai's development journey. The Executive Council became the primary authority responsible for government decision-making, providing public services, and enabling economic and social progress in the emirate through designing public policies and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. Subsequently, Dubai's economy witness a major transformation, leading to significant increases in gross domestic product (GDP), productivity, living standards, and the quality of life.
On 4 January 2006, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum became Ruler of Dubai. Shortly after, he assumed the role of Prime Minister of the UAE, and formed a new government under his leadership in February of the same year.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed then embarked on an ambitious mission to bring his comprehensive political, economic, and social vision to life. Rooted in his deeply ingrained commitment to excellence and innovation in governance, His Highness established a pioneering developmental and government performance model which helped to transform Dubai from a regional economic power into a global hub for investments and innovation.
